SixTen's Birthday Dubstep Massacre!

Today is our buddy Shane Sixten's Birthday! He luckily is celebrating by hosting (along with your truly, and Dj's BHB, Ruxbin, and Sega)a party at the M Room this Saturday!

Check out our facebook invite:

Hello Friends

I know I've been bombarding you over the last year with invitations to all sorts of crazy events. They've all been special, and unique, and exciting in their own rights.....but this one....this one right here......well, this one is particularly special to me because I'll be celebrating my 23rd birthday, and I would like nothing more then to spend it with all my friends, old and new.

The party is at The M-Room on Fron...t and Girard (3mins from the Girard El stop)

I booked some of my favorite DJs in the city to give you that good shit all night long, and to give me plenty of time off to grab a drink with you.

* You like that new Willow Smith jawn? Well I'm willing to bet DJ SEGA will bust out this heater at some point in the night
http://soundcloud.com/djsega/whip-my-hair-philly-club-demo-remix

* Maybe Lykke Li is a little more your style? Well my boy BHB is already ten steps ahead of you
http://soundcloud.com/i-am-bhb/until-we-bleed-bhb-remix

* Me and RUXBIN, we like to get down like this

Doors open at 10pm and the music kicks off at 11pm

There's No Cover all night and the drinks are cheap and abundant

We will see you there!

2 Bands, 1 Blog

Happy Wednesday!

You know we love this City and with that we love the music it makes, both figuratively and literally! 2 Bands we are especially in love with are NonCannon and Nothing.

First Nothing is so new yet they have accomplished so much, already having played a few shows in Philly, the latest being at Johnny Brenda's opening for Clinic. They are 'going on the road" so to speak and playing a show in Scranton on Thursday as well!

Do yourselves a favor and check out their website: http://wearenothing.bandcamp.com/

Noncannon are in Philly by way of North Carolina, but we love them as our own! They rocked every show we have seen them play since last spring. Our favorite song of theirs would have to be their cover of Madonna's Borderline. They are playing their last show in Philly on November 18th at the Slinguff Gallery! Do yourself a favor and check them out!

Enjoy

What are you Doing this weekend...that's what we thought!

Big Weekend for the 3 Girls, we have our first party at the M-Room!

Don't Step!

REVENGE OF THE LAB ANIMALS!!
"Six Ten the Gorilla, Ruxbin the Wolfman and H Mazz the Lizard were happy lab animals, but then some nerdy biotechnician dumped a vat of megavitamins into their food. Now the three huge and gruesome monsters are ripping apart the town for revenge!"

In the vein of RAMPAGE, the seemingly never-ending arcade onslaught of wanton destruction, comes this all-new-monthly (!?) to showcase the most progressive ...of wobbles and gutteral of grime in a genre-bending sonic assault! Your pal Schmohawk (Slay Away Plan, Night of the living Dubstep) will be bringing special guests and distant city-stomping monsters to girard avenue for the reckless endangerment of eardrums and foundations alike. The time has come for the thinking-man's dancing music of the next generation of the hearing impaired.
RSVP now and gain free entry all night!!

The 3 girls Philly presents 'Don't Step!" with Schmohawk!
featuring:
Shane Six Ten (Theta Ops/Dubmasters)

DJ Ruxbin (Actual Records/Phonographic)

with special guest

H Mazz (Project Unity Productions/Real Talk/Thugstep)
~This dude absolutely KILLED at the Slay Away Plan release party at Medusa in Sept, as well as last week at Mad Decent Monday's 'Del-awareness with DJ Bis'. Now he's bringing his rig up to Philly on a weekend (finally!) to showcase his forward-thinking personal blend of the sickest of steps with the most dastardly dubs. His latest project, 'Thugstep,' blends hard-core gangster rap with live-controlled future-bass in a maniacal manner certain to get you slapped by your momma. Don't miss his proper headlining debut in the city of brotherly love!

...4 person multiplayer mode is also available, so stay tuned...

Party kicks off promptly at 11 and continues until 2 a.m.
No cover and CRAZY drink specials til *Midnight*, like:
~ $2 PBR Pounders
~ $3 Well Drinks
~ $3 City-wide Special!!!!

(so come early and get trashed with us like it's going out of style.)

There is a $3 cover after midnight if you haven't RSVPed, so do yourself a favor and get on the list: we'll be printing it out, and we're a healthy alternative(!) If last weekend is any indication, you never know where you might end up when you start your night with mayhem on the brain; we enjoy being your NO-COST option for cheap booze and heady tunes!!

If you like your dubstep scalding and your wax nostalgiac, then the M room is the place to be Saturday November 6th....

Now pick up a controller and choose your character!!

[this event is just *part* of the mayhem Rad Summer has plotted for your November enjoyment, see full calendar in comments for more deets!]

Your lovely ladies will be waiting for you at the door!

See you there!

Night Of The Living DUBSTEP

Good Morning, we know it's still early on Wednesday, but what is everyone doing tomorrow night? We will tell you what...your kicking off Halloweekend right by going to Medusa Lounge for Night of the Living Dubstep!

"Chaos descends upon the world as the brains of the recently deceased become inexplicably reanimated, causing the dead to rise and feed on human flesh!"

Many speculated that it was a secret government bioweapon gone horribly wrong that created the plague of zombies, while others swore that a batch of tainted T-mom's taco meat was the true origin of the infection. Regradless, within hours the wave of mutilation had ripped through ...Philadelphia and transformed the city into a ravenous mass of blood thirsty ghouls, tweaking on Four Loko and their desire for human flesh!

Initially lacking full cognitive function and acting upon the singular drive for brains, a small group of these undead made their way to a nearby club where hundreds of unsuspecting partygoers were enjoying the monthly 'Big Noise' party. After violently slaughtering everyone on the dancefloor, the Zombies looked up and became transfixed on the biggest brain they had ever seen.. that of DJ BHB!! A manic chase across town ensued, and the hoarde eventually overcame him as he sought refuge in a nearby basement establishment. But before he succumbed to the onslaught of clawed hands clamoring for his deliciously overdeveloped melon, he was able to trigger the opening bars of 'Slay Away Plan' on a nearby numark cdmix1...

Instantly the dark, gutteral wobbles of the Devil's own music overtook the Zombies. Somehow the sudden sonic bombardment was of a low enough frequency to register in their half-eaten, rotting grey matter. The undead were placated- finding peace for the first blissful moment in their rabid, tortured existence. Soon, the other infected made their way to the party..drawn out of hiding by the deepest of bass rhythms eminating from the soundystsem. The apocalyspe postponed for a few post-mordem moments, the dead, undead and near-death alike joined each other in an evil, maniacal, blood-soaked dance until dawn, to the ominous sounds of:

DJ BHB (a.k.a. DJ Brain-Hungry Bruce, bringing Big Noise and deep cuts!)

Qi Command (a.k.a Jasian Vorhees, insane asylum beats fresh from the institute!)

DJ Sega (a.k.a. The Black Night-mare, clubbing your head then eating your brains like a true Brick Bandit!)

DJ Ruxbin (a.k.a. Teddy Krueger, stabbing you with needles and encasing the corpses in wax! Also appearing w/610 as Schmohawk!)

DJ Shane Six Ten (a.k.a. Shane of the Dead, the diabolical other 1/2 of
SCHMOHAWK, doing a special undead rendition of Slay Away Plan!)

"An experience in shock more shattering than your strangest nightmare!"

Come reanimate the dancefloor with us Thursday October 28th at Medusa Lounge, 27 south 21st street, just off the corner of Chestnut.
NO COVER!.......9:30pm to 2am........NO COVER!
*Wear a costume and get a free trick or treat bag, chock full of goodies from your favorite undead DJs and your pals at actualrecords.org*
.....Let's start this crazy Philly halloween weekend off RIGHT

Night of the living Dubstep: THE HORROR! THE WOBBLE!!!

As you can read the night will be EPIC!!!!

Concert Weekend

This weekend your 3 Girls were quite busy with concerts, all were great however the Matt and Kim show last night was quite eventful. First let us start out by saying that they put on a great show not only did they preform their songs very well but their covers of Wu Tang's Shimmy Shimmy Ya, Biz Markie's Just a Friend, and Grinspoon's Better off Alone were great as well. Matt and Kim were very engaging to the crowd and amazingly thankful to the fans. That being said, the show had a 7:30 ticket time and the opening act did not go on until 9:30, and Matt and Kim walked on at around 10 after 10. Being 22 years we also felt like complete oldies given that the median age of the viewers was probably around 16. Yes there were fans our age but at times we did feel a little old to be there. Also our cousin Sara's neck was almost snapped about 12 times due to some excessive crowd surfing. All jokes aside it was a great show!

Have a great day!

Last Night

This will be a short one friends, as we posted about our friends Nothing had a show last night upstairs at Adobe Cafe. The best way for us to describe the outcome is to quote the knowledgeable Stephen Bush, "never have i seen a first show so good, or well attended". We agree...great job guys!

Nothing

WE know...weird name for a post, but it's actually the name of a band, and we happen to be friendly with it's members. Last week Nothing was one of the band's chosen for the Urban Outfitter's Music Monday Blog, just wanted to give them a shout out, for two reason's:

1. They have been working super hard and deserve recognition
2. They are playing a show upstairs at Adobe Cafe next Tuesday the 12th, you ALL should go!

Amuse Your Mouth

There have been some mixed reviews about the new restaurant Amuse on Broad and Arch Streets behind the MSB in Center City. We must say that the menu is expanding on Thursday and with the tasting that we did this weekend of the new menu, worth the trip! The price range fits any one's budget and there top shelf alcohol is some of the cheapest in the City! The highlight of the new menu for us was the lamb chops with lamb shank risotto and stuffed peppers. The new menu is debuting this Thursday at dinner.

End of the Summer of Radness...

As hard for us as it is to admit, the summer is over, and if you remember our post A City Legend Turns 10 a few moths ago, Making Time kicked off the "summer of radness". To end this epic summer that started at Voyeur with Liquid Liquid, Making time is sending off the hot season at the Naval Yard with the epic LCD Soundsystem, and the afterparty with Simian Mobile Disco at the OX. So lace up your gladiator sandals, throw on those cutoffs and end the summer right!

Art for the Cash poor...

Your 3 girls love art, but we admit we dont always have the cash to support the habit! However this weekend we (and you) are in luck, the 10th annual Art for the Cash Poor at the Crane Arts Building on North American Street:

This weekend marks their 10th annual Art For The Cash Poor event, and as our perspective has changed somewhat with the economy, the title now carries a more poignant tone…

Belt tightening or not, we always try to support the arts and bring art that speaks to us into our lives, and Rachel Zimmerman and her crew have, once again, put together an arts happening where you can meet the artists and experience their work. Once again at the Crane Arts Building on North American Street, this is a two day event that is free, free, free, so whether you pocketbook is flush or flat, bicycle the few blocks north of 3rd & Girard and have a blast!

Cleopatra

Your fav girls once again got to do something very cool, we got to preview the Cleopatra exhibit after hours last night. It was AMAZING and beautiful. Who knew that the most famous woman in history was so well educated and such a diplomat! The jewelry was amazing, as was all of the artifacts. Most of which they found underwater! By far the most amazing pieces of the collection was the giant and we mean GIANT status of Cleopatra and a King that were meant to guard a temple, you felt like you were entering the world she lived in. The exhibit is open at the Franklin along with a mummies IMAX movie. The event is at the Franklin until January 2,2011, we would highly suggest going to see it! Plus it's the first stop this exhibit has ever made in America!

See you there!

A City Legand Turns 10...a decade of Making Time

As you may know Making Time turns 10 this week and starting tonight a slew of radness will be going down:

It was the year 2000...the dawn of the new millennium. It was an exciting time but things weren’t as great as they might have seemed. The world was in fear over the looming possibility of the Y2K virus that was seemingly about to debilitate computers everywhere.....What Fools!!!, George Bush was on his way to becoming the 43rd President of the United States.....total bummers!!!, 'N Sync - “No Strings Attached”, Eminem’s “The Marshall Mathers” and Britney Spear’s “Oops!...I Did It Again” were to become the top selling records in the US. Yes...people actually bought music then and apparently they bought complete shit. Metallica filed a lawsuit against Napster for copyright infringement and attempted to deny us of our right to download music for free, thus forcing us to actually have to pay for music....crazy right?!?!?! Smashing Pumpkins were to play what would supposedly be their last show ever at the Metro in Chicago.....well....we know that wasn’t true. Zach De La Rocha left Rage Against the Machine and the band took a long hiatus...total bummer....well...at least Justice and Erol Alkan started playing Killing in the Name in their sets so we could relive the legacy of Rage Against the Machine and Zach. Maybe it’s time to start playing Inside Out’s “No Spiritual Surrender” out. Oasis would release yet another very disappointing record, “Standing on the Shoulders of Giants”.....remember that one???? Yeah...I didn’t think so.....that would leave us yet again waiting for the next “Definitely Maybe”.

Well....although the times were looking very bleak...the times were about to change and something very rad was on the horizon and it was on May 28th, 2000 that Making Time was born and along with it the new musical galaxy that we continue to celebrate today!!!
After the birth of Making Time came the release of some of the years best records....Primal Scream’s “XTRMNTR” in May of 2000, The White Stripes “De Stijl” June of 2000, The Dandy Warhol’s “Thirteen Tales from Urban Bohemia” in August of 2000, Radiohead’ s, “Kid A”, Outkast’s “Stankonia” and Dove’s “Lost Souls” in October of 2000, my personal guilty pleasure Coldplay’s “Parachutes” in November of 2000 (Maybe Mike Z will let me play “Yellow” at Making Time finally!!!) and finally all culminating in the release of what could arguably be the raddest dance single of all time.....Daft Punk’s “One More Time” in December of 2000. Am I saying Making Time changed the direction of music????? Am I saying that these records were a direct result of or influenced by the birth of Making Time????? Maybe??? Hehe....or maybe these releases coincidently happened after the birth of Making Time. (Well considering release dates are usually made months to a year in advance...the latter is most likely....oops.)
Regardless.....the stars of the new musical galaxy were certainly aligned with Making Time and Making Time was destined to be an integral force in the new musical galaxy that lied ahead.

Well....it’s been 10 years since the birth of Making Time and the dawn of the new musical galaxy and together Philadelphia we have traversed musical galaxy after musical galaxy with fellow intergalactic cosmic adventures The Inflatable Men (September 2000), The Strokes (May 2001), Black Rebel Motorcycle Club (August 2001), Interpol (November 2001), The Faint (February 2002 and May 2007), The Hives (June 2002), Liars (November 2002), Adult (August 2003), The Rapture (December 2003, October 2005 and November 2006), Sons and Daughters (June 2004), Franz Ferdinand (June 2004), Electrelane (August 2004), Bloc Party (October 2004), The Futureheads (November 2004), !!! (Chik Chik Chik) (New Year’s Eve 2004/05 and September 2009), LCD Soundsystem (June 2005), The Juan Maclean (June 2005 and May 2009), Giant Drag (August 2005), Tom Vek (September 2005), Love is All (November 2005), Hot Chip (March 2006 and November 2006), Favourite Sons (April 2006) ,White Rose Movement (May 2006), The Long Blondes (July 2006), Snowden (September 2006), Soulwax Nite Versions (September 2006, April 2007 and August 2008), 2manydjs (September 2006, April 2007 and August 2008), Lo-fi-Fnk (November 2006), Digitalism (November 2006 and October 2007), Justice (November 2006), Man Man (January 2007), Pony Pants (NYE 2007), Data Rock (March 2007), The Presets (March 2007), Bonde do Role (April 2007), The Klaxons (April 2007), Voxtrot (June 2007), Simian Mobile Disco (live) (July 2007, April 2009 and October 2009), Metronomy (August 2007), Los Campensinos (August 2007), Pink Skull (October 2007), New Young Pony Club (November 2007), Erol Alkan (November 2007, August 2008), Boys Noize (December 2007 and October 2009), The Teenagers (February 2008), Dark Horse and the Carousels (February 2008), Crystal Castles (March 2008), Health (March 2008), Cut Copy (May 2008), Tough Shits (2008), Sorceress (2008), The Black Kids (May 2008), These New Puritans (June 2008), Friendly Fires (July 2008), Late of the Pier (October 2008), Hercules and Love Affair (October 2008), CSS (December 2008), Tough Shits (2008), Sorceress (2008), Heartsrevolution (February 2009), N.A.S.A. (February 2009), Sebastien Tellier (April 2009), The Field (May 2009), Free Energy (September 2009), Tiny Masters of Today (September 2009), Aeroplane (October 2009), Jokers on the Scene (October 2009), Acid Girls (October 2009), The xx (November 2009), Phenomenal Handclap Band (November 2009), Cold Cave (December 2009), Memory Tapes (February 2010), Neon Indian (February 2010), Yacht (March 2010), Dum Dum Girls (April 2010), Girls (April 2010) & Major Lazer (April 2010).

So...after 10 years and so many journeys to so many new musical galaxies how can we truly celebrate the 10th anniversary of the birth of Making Time. Well....for one thing....it cannot happen in just one day and thus we declare the Summer of 2010 “The Making Time 10 Year Anniversary Summer of Radness”!!!
Our first journey together into the Making Time 10 Year Anniversary Summer of Radness will begin with a 4 day long trip known as “The Making Time 10 Year Anniversary Summer of Radness Blast-Off Weekend” from Wednesday May 19th, 2010 to Sunday Wednesday May 23rd, 2010.

Every long journey requires a bit of motivation and that’s why the first day of our trip will begin with a motivational speech by none other than Mr. Andrew WK on Wednesday May 19th at Rock Tits at the Pope. On Day 2, Thursday May 20th, we will further prepare for our journey into the Making Time 10 Year Anniversary Summer of Radness with a little bit of history. We’ll explore musical galaxies of the past with a Making Time Poster Retrospective at the Last Drop Coffee House from 7pm-10pmm followed by an afterparty in the Ruby Lounge Basement of Voyeur with Dave P & Adam Sparkes and Friends at Snacks. On Day 3, Friday May 21st, the true journey begins when Making Time presents some of greatest new dance music producers of the moment....Azari & III at the Barbary.

Then, on Saturday May 22nd, 2010, our first journey into the Making Time 10 Year Anniversary Summer or Radness culminates with something very very special. After 10 years of journeying into new musical galaxy after new musical galaxy we decided that it was time to journey deep into the past....into the source of it all with one band that has arguably been the most influential band on the past 10 years of Making Time and is the central axis of every musical galaxy which we have traversed over the past 10 years. On Saturday May 22nd, 2010 we are very honored to celebrate 10 Years of Radness.....10 Years of Making Time....with a band that has influenced every band that has played Making Time over the past 10 years......New York post punk/disco punk legends....Liquid Liquid.

Liquid Liquid formed in 1980 and from 1980-1983 they made, what continue to be today, the biggest and most influential songs in Post Punk history. Their tracks Cavern (which was sampled on Grandmaster Flash and Melle Mel’s “White Lines”), Bellhead and of course Optimo have been played in clubs around the world for decades and have influenced generations of music enthusiasts, DJs and bands, including the majority of DJs and bands that have played Making Time over the past 10 years. Having recently performed with the Roots on Jimmy Fallon and with a performance scheduled at the Primavera Festival in Barcelona, Spain at the end of May....this will be one of only 3 shows Liquid Liquid will play this year and is one of only a handful of shows the band has played in the past 10 years.

Yes Philadelphia....this is truly something very very special and is not to be missed. I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate 10 years of Making Time with you Philadelphia. This will surely be a magical night to begin what will be one very epic summer....The Making Time 10 Year Anniversary Summer of Radness!!!
Let the Radness begin!!!

PS....More radness will be announced on May 22nd at the Making Time 10 Year Anniversary with Liquid Liquid at Voyeur. Believe me.....there is so much more radness to be had this summer Philadelphia!!!

Le Meridien Philadelphia...a First hand look

The 3 girls have been very busy for the past few weeks, Lauren due in large part to the Grand opening of the Le Meridien Philadelphia and it's restaurant Amuse. Below is the press material:

PHILADELPHIA, May 06, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Starwood Hotels & Resorts /quotes/comstock/13*!hot/quotes/nls/hot (HOT 52.77, +1.99, +3.92%) today officially opened the doors of their newest hotel, Le Meridien Philadelphia. A ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony included special guest speakers such as Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, Pennsylvania Senator Larry Farnese, HEI Hotels & Resorts Chairman and CEO, Gary Mendell, Starwood Group SVP of North American Development, Paul Sacco.

Located in the heart of Center City Philadelphia, the hotel is housed in the former YMCA building designed by prominent American architect Horace Trumbauer, who also designed Philadelphia's Union League and Museum of Art, among other well known projects of the Gilded Age. The historic adaptive reuse property was developed for HEI Hotels & Resorts, who will be the owner and operator of the hotel. Le Meridien, the Paris-born brand with an international presence of 105 hotels and resorts, will increase its North American footprint to nine properties with the opening of this newest hotel. Le Meridien Philadelphia will serve as a U.S. flagship for the hotel group, joining Le Meridien Chambers Minneapolis, which recently joined the brand's portfolio in February 2010.

"We are excited about our debut in Philadelphia, a city that shares Le Meridien's passion for art, culture and creativity," said Eva Ziegler, Global Brand Leader, Le Meridien and W Hotels Worldwide. "With its vibrant arts scene, rich history and modern sophistication, Philadelphia is an ideal fit for Le Meridien as we continue to strategically open new hotels in primary, urban markets, cultural capitals and resort destinations across North America and globally."

Le Meridien Philadelphia provides an integrated contemporary lifestyle experience, including 202 guestrooms and suites; a signature restaurant, the French brasserie Amuse; stylish lobby bar, serving coffee by day; and 5,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, including a 200-seat Ballroom and the Abele Library, a 1,300 square foot reception space overlooking City Hall. The hotel is adjacent to the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and just one block from the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Love Park's gardens and fountains, the Avenue of the Arts, and the boutiques and restaurants that line Benjamin Franklin Parkway -- Philadelphia's Champs Elysees -- are all located within walking distance of the hotel.

Le Meridien has soared under Starwood since its acquisition in 2005, plugging into the company's industry-leading centralized services as well as the group's expertise of building world-class lifestyle brands. Le Meridien has been fully redefined and has earned global recognition for creating a curated, art driven guest experience from the moment of arrival. In November 2009, Le Meridien arrival experience was awarded "Most Innovative Concept in the Upscale Hotel Industry" at the 10th Annual Worldwide Hospitality Awards in Paris.

For hotel reservations and more information about Le Meridien Philadelphia, please visit www.lemeridien.com/philadelphia.

We have to say First hand the food and atmosphere are amazing (and the staff is rather friendly :))

Daily PSA

Girls (and guys for that matter) be nice, its not so hard. People, mainly girls, tend to get caddy when they are jealous of other girls...LISTEN UP! Jealousy is a wasted emotion. We are all great in one way or another. Just because your an insecure bitch does not mean you have to be rude to others...and life is much more enjoyable when you are not worried about what others are thinking of you. So buck up ladies (and gentlemen) Put a smile on and you will find people will react much more positively to you!

BBP- Good Milkshakes...not much else

This weekend one of your girls and our friend Sara decided to hop over to University City and try Bobby Flay's new burger joint Bobby's Burger Palace or BBP. After waiting in an abnormally long line, only being tended by 2 very slow people, we ordered. Mind you we waited...no joke about 35 minutes! Sara ordered a classic Medium Well with a Vanilla Milkshake, I ordered a Philly Burger, medium rare, and a Spiked Vanilla Caramel Bourbon Milkshake, we split fries. We sit at the counter closest to the line and wait...and ..and wait. The serving staff was sloppy to say the least, there was a server wearing backless shoes, all of them had their hair down, some had large earrings, it was a mess! Despite the fact that there was about a total of 10-12 support staff on, the food still took a while to come out! We finally got our food, the burgers were good, the fries were good, oh wait the milkshakes...where could they be? The line is exposed, and Lauren is pretty good at reading people, this is how the whole "milkshake situation" went down: Drink Person 1 to dirty, sloppy, backless shoe server: "where did that Bourbon milkshake go that went with the vanilla one that is sitting here", DSBS Server: "Oh I took it" DP 1: "did you read the ticket, that is order 85, not the table you just took it to, read the motherfucking ticket (there are multiple children in earshot mind you) DSBS Server: "oh sorry" scratches her head slowly turns around and wanders, does not wash her hands even though she touched her visibly dirty hair. After that the profanity loving, very slow, drink maker tells the other drink maker (who is very busy and moving at a fast pace) to make my Bourbon milkshake, after fighting over it for about 15 minutes, and having both managers come by and ask where the milkshake is, the milkshake gets made and brought to my table. Mind you the entire 15-20 minutes that the milkshake debacle was going on...Sara's Vanilla milkshake was sitting on the line. One of the managers brings them over...apologizes, not knowing i witnessed the entire fucking thing, but does not offer us any compensation. The half melted vanilla milkshake was $5 and the Bourbon milkshake was $7.50, nothing! We hate to be so critical but all of your lovely girls work in the industry, and know what serving and good serving protocol is. In the end the food was decent, the milkshakes were very good, but the service was sooooooo bad, its questionable if we will think to go there again, 500 degrees' burgers and fries are better and quicker, we don't need to eat at BBP just because Bobby Flay's name is attached!

Hopefully our next post is nicer!

Shut Up & Dance

Well we just have o update all of you on how truly wonderful our experience went. From the lovely pre-party, in which the the bartenders, including Liz and Jess were wonderful...we mean you Arthur St. John. The show was breathtaking, it was truly more then just Ballet. Michaela Majoun was wonderful (and she loved Lauren's outfit...so even better)and truly funny. The after party was very hype. Everyone from the most square and straight volunteer was dancing at Voyeur until very late! After the party the 3 girls hit up a few of our favorite spots, before swinging by Denim to say hello to our buddy Alex! Of Course we only manage to take one bad picture!

Philadelphia Twestival 2010

On Thursday, March 25, 2010, Philadelphia will once again participate along with hundreds of cities around the world in Twestival Global to benefit the charity Concern Worldwide.

On February 12, 2009, 202 cities around the world, including Philadelphia, held the first Twestival Global to benefit charity:water. Over $250,000 was raised, resulting in over 55 wells being built in Uganda, Ethiopia, and India, directly impacting over 17,000 people. In Philadelphia, we held a Rock Band tournament with over 100 people in attendance and raising $1600 for charity:water. Twestival is 100% volunteer organized and 100% of all ticket sales and donations go straight to the charity.

This year, Philadelphia will be holding “Search for Concern” on March 25, 2010. Starting at a bar in Olde City, participants will put themselves into teams and get clues for an Olde City scavenger hunt combined with pub crawl. Over the course of the evening, participants will compete against each other to earn points by taking pictures and answering clues via Twitter while traveling to several bars in Olde City. Ticket sales to participate in the event and donations via sale of raffle tickets will go to Concern Worldwide.

Concern Worldwide’s mission is to help people living in extreme poverty achieve major sustainable improvements in their lives. Specifically, Twestival Global is focusing on helping Concern with their education projects. The donations from Twestival Global will be used for material purchases (curriculum, desks, pencils) as well as project activities such as construction of schools; rehabilitation of classrooms; teacher/management training; PTAs; HIV/AIDS school clubs; water and sanitation in schools; health education in schools; education advocacy; vocational/life-skills training for youth, farmers and women; and curriculum development for secondary school/university.

Donations for raffle prizes, sponsorship for free drinks, or anything else you can donate would be greatly appreciated. Please contact city coordinators Melissa Thiessen (mathiessen AT gmail.com) or Gloria Bell (gloriakbell AT gmail.com) if you would like to help out!

Hey there, snow bunnies!

So just like all of you, your favorite 3 girls are also snowed in yet again. We had a great night at Lucy's in Old City last night (our usual Thursday night spot) can't beat the awesome deals, 50 cent high lifes and $1 you call its till midnight and of course some of our favorite bartenders, DJ and bouncers holding the fort down! Can't forget to mention that we started at one of our favorite local spots, Devil's Den which is only five steps from our front door. * If you make it to Devil's Den which is located on the corner of 11th and Ellsworth, be sure to check out the Dark Horse Raspberry Ale- it really is delicious!
But in between our drinks and dancing, we decided were going to start doing stuff we don't usually get to do that often so fortunately, this storm was a little less disabling than the others, and we're still able to get out and have some fun! When we think snow day, we think of doing things that we don't get to do that often due to the constant hustle and bustle of everyday life, so why not go do something different, something that if it weren't for having the day off, you wouldn't be able to do? We live in a city with a million different things to do and while most of us are sick and tired of this snow, we might as well take advantage of it. Check out the Walnut Street Theatres site at www.walnutstreettheatre.org for tons of shows going on this week, tickets starting as low as $15. Also, check out Penn's Landings Blue Cross River Rink, the cold weather will hopefully be gone soon, so why not get some ice skating in before it's too late. The River Rink rents skates for $3 and has 2 hour sessions for only $8. As always the loads of bars in Philadelphia are always having specials and trying to get people out on these cold nights so keep your eyes open for deals. "Fashion Up" is going on at DENIM tonight, which if you don't know is open until 3 AM so go have some drinks late night and check out a fashion show, hair-dos courtesy of Fresh Hair Salon in Southhampton, PA.
Now go on and do something fun and have a great snow day Philadelphia!

Dre Day

This Saturday your favorite 3 Girls went to the 1st annual Philadelphia Dre Day, upstairs at the Khyber...and it was done so right. We were one of the first 40 people to get there, so as we walked in we were handed a 40oz of Colt 45 in a brown paper bag with the logo for Dre Day printed on it... It only got better from there! The music as you can imagine, was great and brought to you by some of our favorite djs in the City: Jay Yo, Shawn Ryan, Ed Blammo, Ronnie Darko, and No Arms. Everyone in attendance was dancing, and some even busted out some 90's gear! Gold Chains and Dickies everywhere! It was one of the most original parties we have been to in a while, which made it so memorable, we can wait for next years! Yippy Yo! Yippy Yea!

Brunch

The 3 Girls, You will find like brunch. Why? Well, with the busy lives we live we rarely get to sit back enjoy good conversation, good food, and good drink. Sure we go out and drink, out to dinner, bars, and parties but rarely can we relax and do any of those things. Some of our personal favorites include: Sabrina's Morning Glory, and the Cantina. So when yourself with a few hours, grab your friends and family, catch up and enjoy the relaxing yet fabulous meal that is brunch...see you there!

We're starting a blog....

Hey Everyone. We decided today that we would start a blog, about everything we see, do, want and know. So we're doing it. For those who don't know, we're the3girlsPhilly. Our names are Jess, Liz & Lauren and we'd like to get to know all of you... our fellow Philadelphians, partygoers (Philadelphians or not), and promoters as well. Clearly, we are from Philadelphia and we love it here. In our book, it is THE city and it always will be. Our goal right now is to promote events, all kinds. We're all in college and have jobs outside of promoting and despite all of that, we are all about this and commit ourselves to anything that comes our way.
We try to keep up on all that goes on in Philly and try to keep everyone else up as well. So HELLO all, let's pray that this snow is over and done with.
With love,
the3girlsPhilly
